Siemens Fusesaver Minimizes Outages

The Siemens Fusesaver is designed to minimize lost customer minutes by protecting lateral line fuses from opening during temporary faults. Nearly 80% of the faults on a utility’s distribution system are triggered by transient conditions due to tree branches or small animals. Today, these faults cause the fuse link to blow resulting in downstream customers to lose power thereby requiring a line crew to inspect the line and replace the fuse link.

The Siemens Fusesaver can detect, open and clear a fault in as little as one-half cycle, which is less time than it takes the fuse link to melt for moderate faults. After a predefined open time, the Fusesaver automatically closes the circuit to restore power. If the fault was transient then the fuse link is unaffected. If the fault is permanent, Fusesaver then allows the fuse to operate, isolating the faulted line.

If you’re looking for a way to improve your utility’s CAIDI reliability index, then you should consider trying Siemen’s Fusesaver on one of your troublesome circuits. Contact us at sales@csiutilitysales.com or you can call our office at (517) 627-4971 if you would like to learn more about the Fusesaver or to request a quote.
